UCO Mitchell Hall Theatre

Edmond, OK

Presented by the Oklahoma Youth Arts Foundation
Performed by the dancers of Oklahoma Youth Ballet

The Oklahoma Youth Arts Foundation proudly presents Giselle, performed by the dancers of Oklahoma Youth Ballet, a pre-professional classical ballet company dedicated to preserving and performing the great works of the classical ballet repertoire.

First performed in 1841, Giselle remains one of the most cherished and celebrated ballets in the world. This timeless romantic masterpiece blends expressive music, poetic storytelling, and beautiful classical choreography to create an unforgettable theatrical experience. Audiences around the world continue to be moved by its themes of love, loyalty, forgiveness, and the enduring beauty of the human spirit.

The story takes place in a picturesque countryside village and follows Giselle, a gentle young girl whose joyful spirit and love of dance brighten the lives of those around her. When a charming young nobleman arrives in the village disguised as a local villager, the two quickly form a deep connection. Their growing romance brings moments of joy, laughter, and hope as Giselle dreams of a life filled with love and happiness.

When the truth about the nobleman’s identity is revealed, Giselle’s heart is tested, yet the story ultimately reminds us that compassion and forgiveness can be stronger than disappointment. The second act transports the audience to a magical moonlit forest where the ethereal Wilis appear, spirits known for their graceful and mesmerizing dancing. In this dreamlike world, Giselle’s kindness and devotion shine brightly, creating one of the most beautiful and touching moments in the classical ballet repertoire.

This full production highlights the elegance, discipline, and artistry that define classical ballet while showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication of the young dancers of Oklahoma Youth Ballet. These rising artists train extensively in the traditions of classical ballet and represent the next generation of performers devoted to preserving this treasured art form.

The production also features guest artists from professional ballet companies across Oklahoma and Texas who join our dancers on stage, bringing experience and artistry that help bring this iconic ballet to life.

The Oklahoma Youth Arts Foundation is proud to provide young dancers with opportunities to perform full-length classical ballets while sharing the beauty of the performing arts with the community. Through productions like Giselle, students gain invaluable stage experience while audiences are invited to experience the power, grace, and storytelling that make ballet such a timeless art form.
